David Hartell

David's work at the Centre for Applied Ethics focused on developing alternative
forms of deliberative democracy in genomics as well as researching the ethical and social applications of
patent laws on genomic technology. David Hartell completed a Masters in Philosophy at Simon
Fraser University, specializing in ethics and political philosophy and graduated from the University of Guelph with an honours degree
in Molecular Biology and Genetics and a minor in Music. Over the past couple of years David has worked on projects investigating the welfare and ethical issues associated with the use of animals in gene therapy research, the ethics of vaccinating health care workers during a pandemic, and writing about our obligation towards future generations with regards to genetic modification.
David is currently working at the CIHR Institute for Cancer Research and the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity as Associate, Institute Strategic Initiatives.
